Procedure
After a thorough examination and confirmation that you need a root canal, Dr. Chang will numb the area around the affected tooth. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are available options to help you relax during the procedure. Dr. Chang will then remove the decayed tooth along with the infected pulp. The root canals are cleaned and the tooth is disinfected. Next, the cleaned canals are filled with a sealer paste and rubber compound. The final step is a permanent filling; sometimes a crown is also required to prevent further damage.
Most patients experience immediate relief following a root canal. The numbness from local anesthetic will wear off in a few hours. Some patients may need antibiotics following the procedure to eliminate all possible traces of infection.
